Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche

The Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) is the largest research organization in Italy with a long tradition of involvement in international projects. Its activities are aimed at carrying out, promoting, spreading, transferring and improving research and knowledge in the main scientific areas. The research activities will be carried out at the research division of Portici of the Institute of Biosciences and Bioresources (IBBR). The main interests at IBBR Portici are the evaluation and valorization of plant genetic resources using structural and functional genomic approaches with the aim to produce improved varieties through advanced plant breeding strategies.

Dr Silvana Grandillo is a senior researcher at IBBR Portici and will lead the team’s scientific activities. Over the past 25 years she has developed an extensive experience in tomato molecular genetics and genomics analyses. She has contributed to the International Tomato Sequencing Project and collaborated in a number of national and international research projects (e.g. EUSOL, CISIA).

Within TRADITOM, the CNR group will contribute its expertise in plant breeding, plant genetics, molecular breeding, genomics analyses, metabolic engineering, fruit quality, environmental stress tolerance, characterization and valorization of germplasm as well as Solanaceae diversity collections.
