Strategic approach to EU agricultural research and innovation

European agriculture and rural areas face a number of long-term challenges that can be tackled through research and innovation. As an example, the results of the TRADITOM project are expected to have an important social impact in the traditional farmer and rural communities by encouraging new generations of farmers to cultivate traditional tomato varieties and to incorporate R&D as part of their business plans.

In light of these issues, the European Commission organises a large-scale conference to discuss how a strategic approach to research and innovation can be implemented. The event will take place in Brussels from January 26-28, 2016.

The objectives of the conference will be to:

  • present the main elements of a long-term strategy for EU agricultural research and innovation;
  • discuss its content, in particular several dimensions of the manner it could be implemented.

The conference is targeted at a diverse audience including scientists (in particular agriculture, food and rural research) as well as relevant science networks (ETPs, ERAnets, etc.), stakeholders (farmers, industry and retailers, civil society organisations, European organisations), International organisations (FAO, OECD, CGIAR) and authorities.

Registration is free and open until January 15, 2016.
