SOLCUC 2017: It’s Hort time!

The XIV Solanaceae and III Cucurbitaceae Genomics Joint Conference (SOLCUC) will take place in Valencia/ Spain from September 03-06, 2017. The international meeting is organized by several TRADITOM partners and already attracted about 400 registrations.

SOLCUC 2017 aims to reunite the Solanaceae and Cucurbitaceae scientific communities for the first time since 2011. The hosts have put together an excellent scientific program that will cover recent developments in the genomics research including both basic and applied aspects. About 450 delegates from academia and companies will be participating in this joint event that also takes advantage of Valencia being awarded the title of World Food Capital 2017 by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

Besides playing a crucial role in staging the event, TRADITOM partners will chair several sessions and give a number of talks. SOLCUC 2017 will include a specific session on traditional crops with a presentation of TRADITOM by Andrea Mazzucato (UNITUS). On the final day, a technical visit to the Cajamar experimental farm is being organized. During this tour, SOLCUC 2017 attendees will visit the greenhouse where a subset of the TRADITOM collection is growing together with other Solanaceae.

Cooperation between the three European projects TRADITOM, TomGEM and G2P-SOL is being further intensified as all three project coordinators and several consortium partners will be present in Valencia.

Bringing the Solanaceae and Cucurbitaceae communities together again for the SOLCUC 2017 will offer new opportunities for scientists from all over the world working in these families to exchange ideas and foster new collaborations.
