TRADITOM at the Postharvest Unlimited 2017

Antonio Granell (CSIC) presenting at the VI Postharvest Unlimited meeting

As part of the Fruit Attraction trade show, the meeting Postharvest Unlimited 2017 took place in Madrid from October 17-20, 2017. Fruit Attraction is the largest international fair of fruit and vegetables. The exhibition facilitates the interaction between scientists and representatives from industry and producer sectors and gave higher visibility to the TRADTIOM project.

Results about variability in postharvest shelf life among traditional tomato varieties and our attempts to understand the genetic basis of this variability were presented by project coordinator Antonio Granell (CSIC) at the Postharvest Unlimited meeting on behalf of the TRADITOM partners.

A very important characteristic of traditional tomatoes is related to their postharvest life. Low performance during postharvest is one of the reasons for lack of competitiveness of many traditional varieties and long shelf life of modern varieties is often associated with loss of flavour. TRADITOM is approaching this important process with the characterisation of the postharvest behaviour of a large set of traditional European tomato varieties.
