TRADITOM in the ORIHUELA SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FAIR 2017

On April 28 the Science and Technology Fair 2017 took place at the Faculty of Social and Legal Sciences in Orihuela (Spain). The event was jointly organized by the University Miguel Hernandez Office for Research and Innovation, the Faculty of Social and Legal Sciences and the Polytechnic School of Orihuela in collaboration with MUDIC (Interactive and Didactic Science Museum of Vega Baja del Segura), the Science Teachers Association Hypatia of Alexandria and the Municipality of Orihuela.

The programme comprised a number of hands-on sessions and workshops related to science and technology including a workshop on the genetic variability of tomato which was organized by the Group of Breeding of UMH led by Dr. Juan José Ruiz Martínez (associated partner of TRADITOM). The workshop aimed to provide information on traditional and modern tomato varieties available in different types of shops from local groceries to supermarkets and hypermarkets. The workshop targeted high school students between 12 and 18 who were excited to learn more about the main characteristics of different tomato varieties and even try it out themselves in a live tomato tasting.
